Unicode just approved a batch of new emoji — and the standout is the cracking face, a new addition that lets you visually express the feeling of your brain breaking in the best possible way. If you've ever needed an emoji for "today was a lot" or "I can't believe that happened," this one covers it.

The cracking face joins a meteor emoji (for those "everything is falling apart" days) and a pickle — because apparently Unicode felt the pickle discourse needed a dedicated icon. The cracking face, though, is the clear winner. Jennifer Daniel, chair of the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee, posted a preview showing the cracking face in its full glory — and the internet immediately decided it was an all-timer.

When Can You Use It?

The new emoji are expected to be widely available across iOS, Android, and major platforms in spring 2027. That's still a few months away, but if you want to get ahead of it, some apps are already rolling out early access. Until then, the cracking face is already generating the kind of viral buzz that only a truly relatable emoji can.

Twitter (X), Instagram, and TikTok will almost certainly adopt it the moment it drops — and brands are probably already planning their cracking face launch tweets. Consider yourself warned.
